Examining Past Student Portfolios

I chose to look at Lisa Long’s portfolio mostly due to the way the design seemed to stand out to me. It felt like everything was elegantly designed and placed in such a way to elevate the look and feel of her website. I particularly liked the use of the constant flower image in the background that grounded the website and made it feel self-contained. Some of the other websites had inconsistent design language across the pages which made this page stand out. The one place where this constant background fell out was on the pages for her writing projects. Here the background image was replaced by a black background which helped to isolate the work and help me focus on the content there. I think that if I were to do something similar on my own website I would continue to use the flower background, but have it be faded into the background even more than on the other pages. This might lead to the site feeling stale but I feel like the consistency could be nice. The one big change that I would make to this site is to make it consistent with adaptive design principles. When I resized the window to one-half of my display, to write this. This just feels jarring to the end viewer and could be fixed easily to make the website feel more finalized.
