Learning about Myself

The biggest thing that I learned about my writing is that I have many pieces that I should be proud of yet, I feel as though I cannot be proud of them. Whenever I look at a piece of my writing I don't see what is good about it, I see what could be improved and changed. Every time I look at a piece of writing, I see new grammar issues, new spelling mistakes, and sentences that I could have made clearer. In my opinion, this only goes to show that I am a perfectionist without enough time on my hand to get projects completed up to the caliber that I would like them to be done.

Looking over my GitHub profile as part of this process I noticed the same thing. I have many projects on there that I got to an "adequate" state in my opinion. These are all projects that I've gotten A's on, most of them graded at 100%. At some point this summer I plan to take time to work through some past projects, both writing and coding-related to put together a portfolio I feel I can be proud of. That isn't to say I'm not proud of what I have done here, its just that I could always be doing more to improve what I have here.

Well, if you're serious about pursuing creative writing, you have a lifetime to pursue it. Find a writing group. Sign up for workshops or even more creative writing classes. I think we learn the most from actively doing what we want to do to as high of a level of quality as we can -- and then from getting feedback from someone who is an expert at it.
